This One Was Meant To Be

I am always chasing business and there are a multitude of ways that I end up working with any given buyer or seller. Past client referrals, professional references, open house connections and referrals from fellow agents to name a few. Several weeks ago I was at the Club House on the Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway having a few drinks and dinner with my wife when I got a text from a fellow Realtor.

She had a “sign call” from one of her listings and wanted to know if I was interested in taking it; there was an included screen grab with the buyer’s name & phone number. On that day I had just started the demo of my bathroom remodel, and I was leaving the next day to go with one of my kids to the state snowboard team competition on Mt. Hood for a few days. Feeling a little overwhelmed, I declined the lead. After thinking about it for 20 minutes I pinged her back again “never mind! I’ll take it!”. Too late…she had already farmed it out to a larger group. Dang it.

Fast forward a few weeks and I was hosting a Sunday open house at my own listing in SW Portland. Competitively priced, well prepped for market and there were a bunch of groups coming through the door for a couple of hours there. As I was wrapping up there was one buyer that that I chatted with at length. This house was not a fit for him, but he texted me a few places that he was interested in. Texting lead to touring and within the week I was working with his family to find them their first home.

When I got that first text message I noticed that it was an out of state area code. Thinking about a little more…I remembered that the sign call from my colleague was an odd area code too. Scrolling back through my messages…you are not going to believe this…it was the same freaking guy!!

We just closed their home sale last week in the SW Burlingame neighborhood and I told them this story when I handed off the keys. The Good Lord wanted us to work together is all that I can think. They bought a great house which will be the perfect place to raise their growing family.  I still shake my head a little every time I think about how it all came together.
